Dana R. McGee
Associate Vice President for Diversity & Equity

Dana McGee signed on as the Director of the Office of Diversity and Equity (ODE) in July 2002 and became the Associate Vice President of Diversity and Equity in July 2008.  In her current position, Associate Vice President McGee is responsible for promoting diversity across all levels and campuses of the University of Connecticut (University), while working closely with administrators, deans, faculty, staff, and students.

As the University’s chief Affirmative Action Officer, Associate Vice President McGee oversees the Office of Diversity and Equity (ODE) at both the University of Connecticut Health Center (UCHC) and the Storrs campus (which has oversight over the other regional campuses).  The ODE monitors the University’s compliance with federal and state statutes related to diversity and civil rights, including Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); and also prepares the University's Affirmative Action Plan while serving as the University's neutral investigative unit for internal discrimination complaints.

Associate Vice President McGee is also the University's chief Diversity Officer.  In this capacity, she is responsible for advising the President and Provost on the charting of the strategic plan for enhancing diversity among faculty, staff, and students and will oversee outreach, climate-building, and education efforts across the campuses.  She also coordinates the outstanding work of the University's cultural centers (Asian American Cultural Center, H. Fred Simons African American Cultural Center, Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center, Rainbow Center, and Women's Center), which are instrumental to the University’s efforts to recruit and retain students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and to provide programs that increase awareness and appreciation of the many cultures that enrich UConn.

Ms. McGee earned her law degree from Boston College Law School, and a degree in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania. Following law school, Ms. McGee practiced as an Assistant District Attorney for the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. She then moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she worked as a litigation attorney for a mid-sized law practice, and a Director of Administration for the management-consulting firm, Emily Christopher Associates, Inc. After relocating back to her hometown of Vernon, Connecticut, Ms. McGee served as a Contract Attorney and Placement Director for The Law Registry in Hartford, and then accepted a position as Manager of Executive Research and Recruitment for The Hartford Insurance Company. Leveraging her recruiting and law practice background, Ms. McGee provides strategic and tactical leadership in support of the University's commitment to diversity.

Mary E. Signor
Director of Institutional Case Management

Mary Signor signed on as the Assistant Director and Case Manager for the Office of Diversity and Equity in October 2005 and became the Director of Institutional Case Management in 2009. In managing a heavy caseload of employment law matters as a Staff Attorney with the Northeast Area Law Department of the United States Postal Service, Ms. Signor traveled extensively throughout the Northeast handling investigations, leading depositions, developing case strategies, and representing the government agency before external civil rights enforcement units, and administrative law bodies.  Her appearances and motions practice immersed her in issues arising under Title VII, the Rehabilitation Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Privacy Act.

Ms. Signor regularly advised the agency on complex legal and factual issues, conducted extensive legal research, and drafted successful motions for findings and conclusions of law.    In addition, Ms. Signor worked with upper level management and labor relations representatives on disciplinary matters prior to the issuance of letters of warning, notices of suspension and removal, and appeared before the Merit Systems Protection Board.

Ms. Signor has held progressively responsible positions, beginning her legal career as a Legal Research Clerk for the State of Connecticut Superior Court in New Haven, and a Legal Secretary for the law firm of Withers Bergman LLP in New Haven.  She earned her law degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where she received awards for Outstanding Legal Scholarship, Oral Advocacy, and a Distinguished Academic Achievement Award for her work in Law and the Humanities.
